Chamber serves ace

Meeting in support of event

KEEPING their eye on the ball when the Cairns Tennis International Pro Tour comes to town next month, the Cairns Chamber of Commerce will hold a court-side networking event to coincide.

Partnering with the toplevel televised sporting event for the first time, the chamber is expecting to boost attendance at the tournament through the business get-together.

Chamber membership and business development manager Alex Martins said the event would be held on September 19.

“We want to support (the Tour) during the tournament and see if we can get the numbers up,” he said.

“(It will be good) to sit in the room and see two really good tennis players play on Thursday night, have a couple of drinks, network with people and have fun and enjoy it.

“If you enjoy the sport, you can sit there and talk to someone with similar interest and watch the tennis and have a couple of drinks.”

Mr Martins said the chamber had never been part of the Cairns Tennis International Pro Tour and was glad to be part of an event which served up a real economic boost to the region.

“They get players from all over the world to play in the tournament and they bring their families and friends. And it gets a lot of interaction from the Cairns community,” he said. “They are one of our members and we want to support them during the tournament. This is one way of us doing something different and thinking outside the square.”

The event runs from 5pm to 7.30pm at the Cairns International Tennis Centre.

Tickets start from $10.
