Road needs upgrade
WARREN Entsch, the behaviour of the major part of the “cowboys” on the PDR can be attributed to the lack of financial input and social impact on the peoples, and on the Cape road from Cairns to Bamaga, by all of them thinking they are in the “wild west” and can drive like the Leyland brothers.
You and yopur government particularly have to shoulder the blame for this mess.
In my 40-plus years here I have seen neglect and failure by all federal governments in the treatment of all the inhabitants of this area, white and black, by not completing the full sealing and bridging from Cairns to Weipa and then on to Bamaga.
The financial benefits to all concerned are underestimatible, over this time.
The billions that have been received in one form of taxation or another over this period of time have not flowed back to this necessary piece of infrastructure, which under your term of 20 years, should be as good as roads leading to our major cities in Queensland and Australia.
Please Mr Entsch. Put this upgrade to the Prime Minister Scott Morrison to complete in your retirement term along with the removal of plastic etc from the world.
And thanks for the flag. I’ll pick it up today. John Burns, Cairns to remember is that it was their local member, Curtis Pitt, who forced the relocation of the police and ambulance facilities from the centre of Gordonvale.
It was also Curtis Pitt who was keen to have the RSL moved.
I have no idea as to what he hoped would take their place, but at least the RSL resisted. In the meantime, the old police facilities stand derelict.
