GOLD NATION PREVAILS AS ELECTION DESCENDS INTO CLASS WARFARE

- By Hayley Burtt and Jared Burtt, Year 5, St Andrew’s Catholic College

IN TERM 3, St Andrew’s Catholic College was lucky to be able to see the amazing Hansel and Gretel, put on by Opera Queensland and the Shake and Stir Theatre company.

Three talented actors and singers performed at the All Saints’ Theatre for the junior years students.

The show had three main stars: Hansel, played by Bree Meara-Hendy, Gretel, played Emma Nightingale, and the Father and Witch, played by Thomas Chapman.

There was also a Hansel and Gretel’s mum who wasn’t at the performance and appeared by video link. Their mum was played by Clarissa Foulcher.

We loved seeing Thomas play the Witch. Thomas danced so well in high heels, with the stage covered with candy.

It was quite amazing to feel the vibe of the magic forest with the witch’s gingerbread house. We also enjoyed the lights and the characters that were on the huge screen that was built into the set.

The students at St Andrew’s laughed at the Witch being so crazy trying to get Hansel and Gretel into the oven.

They also really enjoyed the fighting between Hansel and Gretel.

There was a question-andanswer session at the end of the show where students got to ask questions of the stars of the show.

The best question was about quick costume changes, and the characters showed how they could change costumes quickly. The singing was so good. Hansel and Gretel had amazing voices and we can see why they are in Opera Queensland.

It was the first opera performance we have ever seen. We would like to thank Opera Queensland and the Shake and Stir Theatre Company for bringing such a great show to our college.

We enjoyed watching Hansel and Gretel and hope that their shows across Queensland over the next few weeks are a big success.
