Experiments galore at science day
LAST Wednesday, we had a really interesting and fun day at St Rita’s celebrating National Science Week.
It turned out to be lots of fun with the students from McDonnell Creek State School joining us for the day.
We started off with the senior class performing their science experiments and the younger children from our school, and our visitors, loved watching.
A student had made a very interesting experiment with a very reasonable explanation.
She also had built two atoms at home.
I was the leader of my group, called the Archimedes, and our first activity was making Pop Rockets.
It was really exciting to make our own rockets using bicarbonate of soda, white vinegar and water. We shot our rockets out on to the field.
The magnets activity was interesting too, and we all enjoyed feeling the “alien slime” and “goop” made from food dye, PVA glue and water.
There were lots more fun activities that we did throughout the day.
Following the activities, we sat down together in the hub and thanked the staff from both the schools for organising such an awesome day. Without all of their work we wouldn’t have had such a great time!
But sadly, they had to leave to go back to their own school, so we had our second lunch break by ourselves.
Then after lunch we had a parade for the Best Dressed Scientists. Everyone did a really awesome job with their costumes!
Everyone at St Rita’s loved our science day.
