JUNIOR LEAGUE FINALS
THE Cairns District Junior Rugby League final series is in full swing, with one half of the grand final match-ups being decided on the weekend.
In the under-13s, Innisfail defeated Edmonton 40-8 to book their spot in the decider.
Edmonton U13 will now take on Redlynch U13 on Saturday with the other grand final spot on the line.
Kangaroos’ U14 and U15 sides both progressed through to their grand final matches after respective wins over Ivanhoes U14 and Brothers U15 at the weekend.
Kangaroos U14s player Devontey Auda bagged himself a hat-trick in his side’s 28-16 victory.
Ivanhoes U14 will now take on Mareeba U14 to see who will take on Kangaroos U14 in the grand final.
Mareeba’s Leon Wood will be hoping to lead his side to another victory, this time against Ivanhoes U14, after he racked up 24 points in his side’s win over Innisfail U14 last week. Wood scored four tries and kicked as many goals in Mareeba U14s’ 32-14 victory.
After losing to Kangaroos U15, Brothers U15 and Centrals U15 will battle for a grand final berth.
Ivanhoes U16 secured their grand final spot with a 28-10 win over Edmonton U16, while Brothers U16 ended Redlynch U16s’ premiership hopes with their 30-16 win.
Edmonton U16 and Brothers U16 will now face off at Jones Park this Saturday.
All Saturday’s preliminary finals will be played on Field 1.
The day will also have the U12s Warren Pitt Cup running on Fields 2 and 3. Grand finals will be on Saturday, September 7, at Jones Park.
