PROP ALL SET TO BOLT

- TRENT SLATTER

HE’S not hanging up his playing boots just yet, but Cowboys stalwart Scott Bolton has revealed he will depart the NRL club at season’s end.

Bolton will play his final home game at 1300SMILES Stadium against the Bulldogs tomorrow night after a career which includes a premiership and 244 games in Cowboys colours.

Bolton wanted to make as little fuss as possible with the announcement, but the born and bred Far North Queenslander said in a statement yesterday he was proud to represent the Cowboys.

“As a kid from Innisfail, just coming to the Cowboys in the mid-2000s was fulfilling a lifelong dream. I never imagined I’d go on to play for the club for 13 seasons,” Bolton said

The Innisfail product is ranked fourth for the most games for the Cowboys behind only long-time teammates Johnathan Thurston (294), Matt Bowen (270) and Matt Scott (268).

Bolton debuted in Round 4, 2007 and was a first-grade regular by 2009. The 32-year-old has yet to confirm his plans for next season, but it is understood they could include a stint in the English Super League.

Cowboys director of football Peter Parr said Bolton was leaving Townsville as a club legend.

“In some ways Scott Bolton’s career has been understated, but if you have a look at his resume, he’s had one of the premier Cowboys careers,” Parr said.

“He came to us straight out of high school in Innisfail and what he’s gone on to achieve has been remarkable. In my mind, Scott Bolton is one of the great contributors, both on and off the field, in this club’s history.”
