Coach on holiday or courted by clubs?

- with Jordan Gerrans

EAGLE-EYED footy fans around the north may have spotted a former a former AFL assistant and VFL coach around the grounds at the weekend.

Former North Melbourne champion and renowned coach Peter German was in town for a short holiday and was sighted at a game of local footy.

Playing 185 games from 1984-94, followed by coaching stints with Burnie, Hawthorn, West Coast, Subiaco, Fremantle, Casey and Williamstown, German (below) last coached in the Ovens and Murray Football Association with Albury Tigers, but pulled the pin earlier this year.

Could any AFL Cairns clubs be sniffing around the respected mentor, or was he just up here to enjoy a winter holiday?

We will see.

■ AFL Cairns club Centrals Trinity Beach will hold a special general meeting early next month.

The Dogs are looking to bring together their football and social parts of the club into the future through the meeting.

All the talk out of Crathern Park is that the Dogs are busy recruiting for 2020 already, so expect a couple of handy southern inclusions next season.

■ What a unique scenario it is for Gold Coast Suns listed footballer Kitara Whap-Farrar to be able to drop back and play at her local club while in Cairns.

I cannot think of another situation like it around Australia.

The South Cairns talent is in the rare situation that her AFLW club has not yet actually started yet, allowing her to drop back to play with her friends and family.

It would have been a huge buzz for the entire women’s competition on Saturday to see a currently listed AFL footballer featuring against the locals.

She would have brought back plenty of experience and guidance, not just to her Cutters teammates, but even the opposition clubs.
