HOON BIKE SCUM
Couple traumatised after tradie headbutted and run over in vicious suburban attack
A CAIRNS tradie who tried to confront a group of neighbourhood hoons is facing a lengthy recovery after a random daylight street attack.
One of the four motorbike riders headbutted Tristan Mowat (left, with wife Monica) while wearing a helmet and ran over his foot, shattering several bones which required surgery.
Police are investigating the brutal daylight assault which is likely to keep the 33-year-old electrician off work for months.
A CAIRNS tradesman has undergone significant foot surgery and will be off work for months after he tried to confront a group of motorcycling hoons who had been allegedly terrorising his neighbourhood for weeks.
Tristan Mowat, 33, and wife Monica, 30, had arrived back at their Bentley Park home from shopping last month when they heard the riders approaching along the path beside their house.
Mr Mowat attempted to stop them and speak to them.
Two of the riders allegedly buzzed past him and knocked him over before the third stopped then randomly headbutted him with his helmet and rode over his foot, shattering several bones.
A fourth rider also stopped briefly before following the other three away from the scene.
Mrs Mowat said her electrician husband underwent surgery last week.
She said he had plates and screws inserted into his foot, but had a long rehabilitation journey ahead.
Mrs Mowatt said he had also sustained ligament damage.
“He’s basically off work for the rest of the year,” she said.
“We’ve got a mortgage. We’re going on a holiday to New Zealand in November. He’s going to be in a moon boot for that (holiday), which we’re still paying off.”
Mrs Mowat said the riders, who they believed were young adult males, had been riding the unlicensed dirt bikes around their local streets for several weeks.
She said residents had been concerned for their safety as they were riding dangerously and at high speeds on footpaths, disregarding signs.
The couple built their Starr Close home and have been living in the area for about three years. They have reported the August 23 incident to police.
Edmonton police acting Senior-Sergeant Glen De Lai said officers were investigating and information could be reported to police or Crime Stoppers.
