Break-in charges
A 16-YEAR-OLD Edmonton boy has been charged over a spate of break-ins at Southside Shopping Village in Woree on Sunday morning. The crime spree hit six business at the shopping centre: Southside Shopping Village’s The Wax Room, Bayview Gardens Newsagency, Wendy’s Seafood, Anika’z Hair Studio, Liquorland and IGA. The offender is alleged to have smashed glass at the centre and stole from the registers. A Queensland Police Services spokesman confirmed the boy had been charged with five counts of enter premises and one count of wilful damage.
Dog bite girl ‘stable’
AN EDMONTON girl remains in a stable condition in hospital after she was bitten by a dog over the weekend. Paramedics were called to a private residence at 7.30am on Saturday. An ambulance spokesman said the seven-yearold suffered lacerations to her leg and was transported to Cairns Hospital. A Council spokeswoman said they were investigating the incident with co-operation from the parties involved.
Tully culvert works
MURRAY Street in Tully will be closed for about four weeks (weather permitting) for culvert works. A detour will be in place via Curtis, Blackman and Cook streets. Residents are asked to obey signage indicating the change in traffic conditions. The culvert replacement is part of the 2019/20 Urban Drainage Capital budget. Gun case adjourned
THE case of a 47-year-old Earlville man whose nine-yearold son allegedly shot his sister, 6, has been adjourned to November. The defendant has been charged with grievous bodily harm and a host of weapons offences including failure to keep a weapon unloaded and secure and contravening licence conditions. It is believed the boy was playing with the defendant’s Glock pistol when it discharged, shooting his sister. The matter has been adjourned for mention in the Cairns Magistrates Court on November 20.
