To need to “restore” the reef at a cost to taxpayers of $444m we first must be certain it needs restoring. Given JCU unlawfully sacked Professor Ridd to repress his challenge to that “certainty” this spending seems premature. Let’s spend the first 10 per cent of our $444m checking our existing understand­ing. Then, when we know the Reef is fine, we can spend the balance on something we need - like a second hospital for Cairns.
