Tourism class passes
By Maddie Bishop, Year 12, Woree State High School
THE Woree State High School senior tourism class of 2019 is coming to a rapid end.
A majority of our class completed their certificate earlier on in the year and cheered on the rest of their class mates who later finished their certificates in August.
The year was filled with new and exciting experiences ranging from excursions to the Cairns Zoom and Wildlife Dome, to meeting a new Careers Training Centre trainer every two weeks and getting to know them all.
Our teacher Jaynie Johnson, who was also completing her certificate alongside the class, encouraged every one of her students no matter how many headaches we gave her.
We are all extremely proud of our achievements and appreciate the effort all the trainers and teachers put in to help us finish the course.
We were rewarded with the occasional box of Krispy Kremes or an exciting excursion to keep us motivated, but we felt motivated enough having such an amazing set of teachers behind us the whole way.
We learnt about customer diversity and the correct way to talk to customers. We also learnt about the acts put in place to protect customers from discrimination as well as protecting ourselves from discrimination in the workplace.
In addition to learning about customer diversity, our class took on about 12 different units that built our competencies for our certificates; this was a long, confusing and complicated course that we all put an enormous effort into and eventually achieved success.
I would like to extend a massive thank you to our amazing teacher Miss Johnson and the CTC trainers for always believing in us and helping us to gain a certificate that gives us another possible pathway when we graduate in November. Due to changes in Telstra’s network on 30 September, Catholic schools are migrating to a centralised phone system.
