Learning a code and having fun

-

A SMALL group of Year 7 students decided to meet regularly each week after school for an hour to delve into some of the mysteries of Latin.

Here is what some of them say.

“Latin is an amazing way to exercise your brain and learn another language! Learning another language can be fun and beneficial for your brain growth and development.

“You make new friends and have a great time with Brother Joa! It’s like learning a secret code that you can say to your friends.

“Latin is amazing, educational and fun and I guarantee that it is worth it,” said Jack Brunetto.

“Latin is a great language to learn because it is the root of 60 per cent of English words. Learning Latin is almost a privilege because not only is it a base language but you also make friends and expand your brain at the same time.

“We also learn about the culture of Rome in 80AD, the year after Vesuvius erupted,” said Maximus McKinley.

“Latin is amazing and a fun language to learn. The vocabulary is unique (a Latin word) and is like a code that only the people who learn it can understand.

“It is fun learning Latin with friends and Brother Joa. It is good for your brain development and is a good way to pass your time. Learning Latin is a good way to tutor yourself to understand English words as never before,” said Sahan Warshamana.

“Latin is an ancient language from which many other languages are based. Doing Latin with Brother Joa is really fun. He makes it fun and interesting. One of the reasons I participate in the Latin Club is that I want to know how Latin will help my vocabulary and my English. Learning Latin is even more exciting because it is an ancient language. Not many people learn Latin these days and this makes it a lot more interesting than learning languages, like Japanese or Chinese, that have no relation to English," said Myles Whipp.
