A very successful weekend with players coming from all around our region to compete. The weather was magnificent & the scoring on the golf course was epic! Thanks to all our volunteers who helped make the weekend a success. The FRGT’s, Match Committee & House Directors put on a great event for our competitors. Congratulations to all the winners for the days play & the overall victories. We hope to see you all again next year to defend your tittles! Day 1: Cairns Golf Club member Heath Kapor took a commanding lead on day one in A Grade with a 3 under 67, 5 shots in front of Jake Cockle 72 & Dave Cameron, Danny Bradley, a further 1 shot back on 73. Local boys Simon Williams & John Tissizis couldn’t be separated on 79 a piece & set up for a great show down on Day 2 in B Grade. Gordonvale Golf Club member John Hudson held a 3 shot lead over Jeff McGrath in the C Grade comp & it was tight all the way to the finish line. Addi Butorac played well with a 78 & a 6 shot lead coming into Day 2 over CCG member Christelle Prinsloo 84, in the Ladies Div 1. El Arish Country Club Inc member, Hippas Donald could have had a few more shots under her belt, but played great to hold onto a 1 shot lead over Roslyn Slyney, in the Ladies Div 2. Day 2: Heath applied the pressure to the AGrade field with another great round of 73 & hold the club house lead at even par for the 2 days play. Jake couldn’t make up the deficit & placed T2nd with Dave Cameron from the CGC. Simon stayed strong on Day 2 with an 80 off the stick to hold off GGC member Jock Morgan by 6 shots. Well done Simon great composure over the two days! Jeff & John both played great on Day 2 in the CGrade comp. We thought there was going to be a play-off, but Jeff held onto a 1 shot lead to take the title. Addi never misses a Sunday & held her nerve in the Div 1 com to take out top prize. A very tight race to the finish line in the Ladies Div 2 comp. Five shots separated the players after two days of play. Cindy Cockle played very well on Day 2, with the best gross, to get into contention. Hippas held on by one shot to get the title. Thanks to everyone who stayed & come back for presentations, it’s always great to get some photos of the prize winners. Upcoming Events Wednesday Allsporters - 12pm & 3pm tee times Friday Comp - 12pm & 3pm tee times Saturday Comp - Cairns Golf World Monthly Medal - Tee off times - 730 am & 12pm Sunday Junior Golf - Mossman Junior Open ANOTHER fine spring day for the Reynolds Family Trophy Day, stroke format, for this week’s competition. A good field turned up to test themselves against some pretty fierce wind and a lot of run through the course with fine dry conditions. The course played a couple of clubs longer than usual and hanging on to the greens took some skill evidenced by only a few net scores under par. Sponsor Michael Reynolds carded the best score for the day with a net 65, but in keeping with Millaa Millaa tradition he excused himself from the trophies. Great day out with Michael playing long and straight all day. After an awful lot of conjecture and some dodgy maths, Jon Collins was declared winner with an honest net 67 with Richard Sullivan 2nd on 68. NTP’s 1/10 Alan Hapgood, 5/14 Jon Collins and 3/12 David Welch. (David seems to own that hole of late.) In the ladies, Marg Azar played her best round for a while and carded a good net 67 to win with Barb Clifford coming in 2nd. Marg also held the NTP for 6/15. Next week it’s the big weekend. The John Cole Toyota Millaa MIllaa Open weekend, with a 4 ball ambrose on Saturday and Single Stroke across all grades on Sunday. Time Sheets available. Check our Facebook page for details. DESPITE a beautiful day for golf, the concept of golfing cross country obviously scared off the troops. Dave Cassells and his grandson Dave Jr enjoyed the challenge set for them though and both played well in the unfamiliar format. Dave won nearest the pin as well. Dave was the midweek winner as well this week with Jo Klease the best putter again. Next Sunday is the Ravenshoe Hardware fourball ambrose with a 10am shotgun start.
