ACT legalises cannabis use. So, if I have a litre of OP rum in my fridge and an ounce of dope in my pocket, which is worse? Bazza, Mareeba Mayor Manning (CP, 28/09). It is a littleknown fact that all businesses, including tourism, are better off with fewer taxes, levies, tariffs and regulations. The only people who want more of those things are politicians, bureaucrats and communists. Digger, Cairns Well done Bluey with his beloved Richmond Tigers winning the 2019 AFL flag. David the Collingwood Magpies fan, Woree What is it with Cairns? It wishes to be world class for tourists but the airports aren’t. The domestic airport upgrade is more shops. Where is the viewing gallery or children’s playground? Cairns continues to shoot itself in the foot. Richard, Palm Cove On pig hunting (CP, 28/09). Humans and dogs have been hunting together for around 18,000 years. The dogs absolutely love it. The pigs might not like it but the native species must come first. As a taxpayer and port user I don’t think I’ve ever been so insulted or offended as to read in the Cairns Post the vastly excessive salaries of Ports North staff. The CEO is paid more than the US President. And for what? It’s time for massive pay cuts across the public service and the government-owned corporations. Queensland can’t afford it. Mariner, Portsmith With all the trees we are knocking down for ugly subdivisions and roads, why don’t we at least start our own paper mill? Pat, Woree
