Santa’s little helpers
By Ronan Kidney, Year 5, St Andrew’s Catholic College
STUDENTS from St Andrew’s Catholic College, including Lachlan Christopher (left) and Grace McLoughlin have put their best feet forward in order to give others a leg-up this Christmas by raising funds and donations for the St Vincent de Paul Christmas Appeal.
THROUGHOUT term four, students from Prep all the way to Year 12 have been fundraising and collecting donations to the annual St Vincent de Paul Christmas Appeal.
Early in the term, the junior years’ Student Representative Council asked students to bring in donations for a second-hand toy sale.
The response was overwhelming, with one whole classroom filled with toys to be sold.
The second-hand toys were sold to junior years students across a week and the sale was successful.
The sale raised $1629.20. This is an amazing effort.
Along with the toy sale, classes from across the college have had baskets in their classrooms.
The classes were encouraged to bring in food items and Christmas items that could be given to a family in need by St Vincent de Paul.
The response to this from the St Andrew’s Catholic College students was amazing.
The classes from Prep to Year 12 filled over 100 baskets full of food and gifts.
Gary Spencer came to the St Andrew’s Feast Day Mass on Friday in week 8 to accept the fundraising money and Christmas hamper donations.
He said that he was overwhelmed by the generosity of St Andrew’s Catholic College and that many families would have a better Christmas because of this generosity.
I am proud of our college for supporting the St Vincent de Paul Christmas Appeal.
I hope that families in need have a Christmas to enjoy after they receive a hamper.
