YOUNG CRICKETERS HIT THE PITCH FOR REP CARNIVALS
FAR North opening batsmen Isaac Nasser and Roley Thomas will be hoping they can channel the big-hitting power of older cousin Paul Nasser when they make their way out onto Endeavour Park today.
Despite Far North falling short of victory against Bayside East & Redlands (BEARS) yesterday, the opening pair put on a strong 45-run partnership to get their side off to a good start.
Coach Robert Adams said he hoped the juniors could do the same against heavyweights South East Queensland today.
He said they had “cricket in their blood”, being the younger relatives of Atherton tonk-artist and Cricket Far North 2019/20 first-grade top scorer Paul Nasser.
“They’ve got the potential to be as good as big Pauly, too,” he said.
“Up on the Tablelands, there’s not a Nasser that can’t play cricket – these boys are proof of that.”
Far North will be chasing a win in the second round of the Queensland Junior Cricket Development Championships today, after tasting defeat in their opening match of the tournament.
Far North face a tough task to raise the silverware, with today’s game against South East Queensland followed by matches against MackayWhitsunday and Gold Coast over the next two days.
“All I expect from our boys is to just make sure the other team knows they’re in a fight against us,” Adams said.
“But it’s really about the experience. We’re all boarding together at St Augustine’s and for a lot of them it’s probably the first time they’ve been away from mum and dad for five days, so it’s good.”
The Queensland Junior Cricket Development Championships will be decided with a round of finals on Friday.
