Swepson banks on wrong’un

- LACHLAN GREY

BRISBANE Heat leg-spinner Mitch Swepson plans to emulate Strikers strike weapon Rashid Khan and leave his rivals bamboozled when the teams meet in today’s Big Bash League clash at Adelaide Oval.

The highly touted Swepson has already enjoyed a Test squad call-up this summer and remains a vital cog in the Heat set-up, with five games left in the regular season.

Fresh from a tidy 1-24 in Brisbane’s seven-wicket win over the Strikers on Tuesday at the Gabba, Swepson said he was ready to deploy his wrong’un and make the most of Adelaide Oval’s long square boundaries.

“I’m always trying to work on my variations and I’ve picked up a couple of wickets this year with the wrong’un so it’s obviously coming out pretty well,” Swepson said.

“And I think dimensionwise (Adelaide) is almost completely different.

“At the Gabba you’ve got short, straight boundaries and the big square boundaries whereas at Adelaide it’s the complete opposites, our plans as a bowling group will obviously have to change.

“Our batters will look at the way they go about their business and change their plans to suit the dimensions.”

Swepson also welcomed Mujeeb Ur Rahman’s return to the Heat, citing the danger of having a mystery spinner to match a red-hot Khan.

“Mujeeb’s come in and bowled brilliantly. He bowled economically and was probably unlucky not to get a wicket (against the Strikers on Tuesday).

“Guys just don’t really know where the ball’s spinning which is always a great asset.”

The Heat welcome back Ben Laughlin from a heel injury, with the veteran quick set to join James Pattinson and Josh Lalor, at Jack Prestwidge’s expense.
