Bryan’s Babe finds her feet after move north

THE Tolga yard of Janel Ryan are optimistic about what stable newcomer Bryan’s Babe can produce going forward.

The former NSW-based mare put together a consistent career around country tracks down south, winning three times from almost 30 starts, but always had trouble with some of the harder tracks around.

The five-year-old’s owners thought a softer surface in north Queensland would do the mare wonders and it has paid dividends within two starts, with Bryan’s Babe scoring by a length on Friday at Townsville in the $17,000 Class 6 Plate (1200m).

Apprentice rider Zoe White did a bit of work early on to position up on the speed, leading on the turn, and held off the former Brisbane-based Bachelor’s Art in the closing stages.

“His form was pretty good in NSW … (but) the owner wanted to send him up here because the race tracks were a bit softer,” stable representative Ronnie Ryan said.

“The 1000m was always going to be too short for her first-up, she is a nice little mare and I think there is more in store for her.

“There is a race down in Townsville for her over 1400m in the next couple of weeks,

FOOTBALL she has pulled up well, so I think that is where we will go with her.”

The drive was worth it for the Ryan stable last Friday, taking down just the one horse for one winner.

The quality Ryan team has four runners engaged on Tuesday at Cannon Park – Tutelage, Our Atom, Lushan and Diamozu.

The stable are hopeful Lushan will be more than competitive in the Open Handicap from the inside alley while they are expecting to see improvement from former James Cummings-trained threeyear-old Tutelage in the first race of eight.

Leading hoop Wanderson D’Avila, with more than 400 career wins, continued his hot form on Friday at Townsville, riding an early double, and has an impressive book for Tuesday’s races at Cairns.
