On bushfires

-

It’s ironic that so many koalas have died in the bushfires due to green tape blocking hazard reduction burn-offs. Actually there’s another word for it — but I doubt it could be printed.

No caring Aussie would be expecting the government to deliver a surplus this year, Ellen Whinnett. We will be more than happy to see that spent in towns that were burnt down, compensation paid to volunteer firies and rebuilding infrastructure.

Betty White’s 98th birthday, so happy birthday to you.

If the city bats (CP, 20/01) are killed by the well-documented “urban heat island effect” this summer it will be the fault of those who block efforts to move them back to their proper forest habitats, just as the intense bushfires are the fault of those who block fuel reduction. Guess who the blockers are?

To Alex Blair’s letter to the editor. The only people with heads in the sand are people like you that think the world will end in 10 years. All prior predictions have been wrong by multiple scientists. And no the ice hasn’t melted and the sea levels are not rising and the sky hasn’t fallen in. But you are right. Climate is changing just like it has for thousands of years. Sam, 4850

My club missed a federal sports infrastructure grant despite meeting all criteria. Why? The Auditor General reported minister McKenzie illegally used these grants as an LNP slush fund in marginal electorates. Kennedy was unwinnable, so we lost out. The Auditor General reported similar misuse of regional grants last year. Where is the investigation? Why don’t we have a federal ICAC punishing this blatant misuse of taxpayer funds?

Reading about Georgia Babatsikos running for mayor of Cairns she said if she got elected she would have council declare a climate emergency. What a stupid thing to say considering Cairns and indeed Australian voters rejected climate change at the federal election and will do the same at the local election. Cairns will not elect anyone with a green agenda after what we went through with Aunty Val.
