Chamber president Joe Moro now wants the Federal Government to come to the party with funding.

“We are aware the State Government is in the throes of applying for $21 million to allow for a strategic assessment of service requirements, preliminary evaluation and a detailed business case,” he said.

GOOGLE TO CRUMBLE COOKIES

GOOGLE will phase out thirdparty cookies in Chrome by 2020 in a blow to advertisers.

A cookie is a small piece of data stored in a user’s computer when they visit a website to help websites “remember” users and information about their browsing.

A third-party cookie is one that has been placed on a website by a domain other than the one a user is visiting.

Third-party cookies let advertisers target users likely to be interested in their ads.

So why does Google want to get rid of them? Google believes moving away from thirdparty cookies will increase user privacy. Instead of cookies, advertisers will use Google’s Privacy Sandbox.

This is a set of tools to allow advertisers to run targeted ads without having direct access to user’s personal details.

Some advertisers have reservations about the Privacy Sandbox, but the two year transition period ought to allow time to get used to the new method.

“We’d like to see this funding made available to the state as soon as the application is made and duly considered, to allow for an immediate start to the planning study.”

The Mareeba Shire Council has been collecting data on the influencers face a gender pay gap.

On average, male influencers earn 7 per cent more per post than female influencers, according to HypeAuditor.

Influencers are Instagram users who are paid by businesses to spruik their products and services to their many followers. They are generally paid per post, video or story, rather than per hour.

The report, which gathered information from 1600 influencers, showed the average female influencer is paid $US1315 a post, whereas the average male influencer is paid $1411.

The pay gap increased with the number of followers.

FACEBOOK DISASTER MAPS

DURING the ongoing Australia bushfire crisis, Facebook disaster maps have helped responders working with affected communities.

Four maps were created and shared with responders: the South Coast of NSW, Green Wattle Creek in NSW, East Gippsland in Victoria and Cudlee Creek in SA.

The maps have provided real-time data which allows agencies to act quickly and effectively. For example, during the evacuation of Batemans Bay, the maps allowed views to track the speed of the evacuation as population density shifted from the fire’s path. use of the range for the State Government.

There were 131 crashes on the Kuranda Range Road between 2013 and 2018.

Mr Moro said the growth and prosperity of Mareeba Shire would continue to suffer unless action was taken to improve the safety, efficiency and reliability of the vital transport link.
