FNQ BOWLS RESULTS

On Saturday, February 8, South Johnstone hosted round 5 of the Ivan Granich Shield, when they defeated Gordonvale. This Saturday South Johnstone will travel to Babinda to play in the final of the Granich Shield against Innisfail. Team to be advised. This Friday SJ will be holding their first twilight bowls of the year. The night kicks off at 6pm with a barbecue, with bowls at 6.30pm. Cost is $15 with bowls provided and a raffle and members’ draw. On Sunday afternoon South Johnstone will be hosting a Mixed Open Seafood comp. There will be two games of 16 ends of two bowl Triples. Teams are self-selected with plenty of prizes to win on the day. Cost is $15 pp or $45 per team with the first game to start at 1pm.

On Saturday, February 8, some 36 pairs spread across the district at Marlin Coast, West Cairns and Mossman greens were reduced to 16 going head to head in the Knock Out Play at Marlin Coast on Sunday 9th. A threat of a thunderstorm and a short period of rain did not deter the 26 players including two new ladies from enjoying their game last Monday.

After the three hours of play, the winners were declared as Terry Ryan, Norma Wright and Wally Smith. As the green is covered there was no disruption to play.

Every Monday starting at 1.30pm we start playing social mixed bowls with the emphasis on enjoying ourselves. Any registered bowler can participate by advising their details to our selector by ringing 0409624623 before 1pm, and if they are new to our club, details of their preferred playing position and a mobile phone contact will assist the selectors. A sheet is also available at the clubhouse.

Cards are called at 1.15pm and a break is made when a substantial afternoon tea included in the green fee is available, with the game concluding at 4.30pm when a raffle is drawn and the winning team announced.

We welcome any player from any bowls club either local or visiting at any of our Mondays.
