Top OP result revealed
Principal says success due to strong team
THE principal of the Far North’s top performing school has shared the keys to their success, after landing the highest OP results in the region.
The Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority yesterday released the 2019 Year 12 results for more than 500 high schools across the state.
The results show 45.5 per cent of students at Freshwater Christian College, Brinsmead, received an OP between one and five, the highest proportion of high-end results in the area.
Freshwater Christian College had a total of five students receive an OP between one and five, out of 11 students who got an OP score.
College principal Doug Holtam said the school was delighted with its success with last year’s results.
“We are also incredibly proud that all of our students have entered into either their first preference for university, or their intended line of employment,” he said.
“This is exceptional, particularly in a year when the State Government introduced a new senior school assessment system.”
He chalked up the Year 12 cohort’s success to dedicated, hardworking students, high quality teachers, excellent support staff, and a clear focus on the needs of each student.
“Our greatest strength is our teamwork, positive and caring relationships, and a great sense of community from kindergarten to Year 12,” he said.
“They say ‘it takes a village to raise a child’.
“Freshwater Christian College is like a village, where everyone is known, valued, nurtured and prayed for.”
Cairns School of Distance Education, Cairns, had the second highest proportion of high end OP scores in the Far North Queensland area, with 41.7 per cent of students receiving a score between one and five.
Of the 12 students who received an OP at Cairns School of Distance Education, five received a result between one and five.
The third highest proportion of students receiving OP scores between one and five was at Trinity Anglican School, where 37.9 per cent achieved a top end result.
There were 29 Trinity Anglican School students who received an OP score last year.
Schools with fewer than 10 students receiving an OP were not included in the analysis.
The 2019 student cohort will be the last class of Queensland students to receive an OP score, with the state moving to Australian Tertiary Admissions Ranks from this year – in line with other states.
