Cook Shire works

COOK Shire Council is upgrading a section of Oaky Creek Rd, between the Endeavour Valley Rd and Ironwood Ave intersecti­ons. The work began yesterday and will take about eight weeks. Road users are advised to expect changed traffic conditions, including minor delays.

New Lego at library

THE Frost family of the Cooktown Newsagency has donated a huge box of brand-new Lego sets to the library to be used for the weekly Lego Club. “We were making way for new stock and read in the newspaper about Lego Club, and Andrew thought it would be a great idea to donate,” Mrs Frost said. Lego Club is on every Thursday from 3.30pm to 4.30pm, and everyone is welcome, with children under school age to be accompanie­d by an adult.

Animal inspection

THE Weipa Town Authority began its annual Animal Selective Inspection program yesterday. The program will run until April 30 and will help ensure animal owners are keeping their pets in accordance with state and local legislatio­n. The program will focus on properties that hold an additional animal permit. It will operate at Evans Landing, Rocky Point, Nanum, Trunding and Golf Links.

Cycleway works

WORK is beginning on stage 3 of the Thursday Island cycleway.

The works extend from Bach Beach to connect to the existing cycleway at the Aubrey Pde–Clark St intersecti­on. During the constructi­on period, pedestrian access will be limited and residents are advised to seek alternativ­e arrangemen­ts for their own safety. There will also be a period of reduced access availabili­ty to the Bach Beach informal parking area. Constructi­on works will be staged to still allow vehicle access.
