The final of the Ivan Granich Shield was played on Saturday. It was a hot afternoon, with extra breaks taken to cool down. Winners on the day were South Johnstone, Gordonvale & Babinda. The Ivan Granich best player medal for the competitio­n went to Gavin Omodei, well done Gavin.

BROTHERS EDMONTON

RESULTS: Once again all bowls were cancelled last week due to the excessive hot weather, let’s keep our fingers crossed that the weather will be a little more favourable this coming week. Just to be on the safe side please contact the Bowls office on 4055 5344 to make sure the green is playable.

Board of Management Annual General Meeting will be held this Sunday at 10am in Bros. Fuller Sports Club. All financial members Ladies and Men are requested to attend. Current positions on the Board of Management will be declared vacant on the day.

Gordonvale Bowls Club held a Big farewell to old Gunnie on Monday Feb 10. May the green up above have happy bowling for him. God bless you Gunnie, you will always be remembered.

INNISFAIL

EIGHTEEN bowlers braved the humid conditions on the Thursday afternoon social bowls. Winners were: D. Juhas, G. Edgerton and M. Elliot. Hope for better conditions this week. Visitors welcome. Names in by 1pm for a 1:30pm start. Friday saw S. Howe defeat M. Elliot in a club A Grade singles game.

In Babinda on Saturday was the final of the Granich Shield played. South Johnstone defeated Innisfail on aggregate score after a win and a loss in VERY hot conditions. Congratula­tions Mongrels. Check the notice board for any club games to be played. On Sunday morning March 1, a return of 2 bowl self-selected triples will be played. All members and visitors most welcome.

WITH Mossman (and Atherton) Bowls Club hosting the District Singles last Saturday, we had 28 players for a game of bowls last Friday afternoon. On rink 6, a draw at 17 all to Bruce Lester & David White against Randal Edwards & Gordon Henderson. On rink 5, at +2 (19 to 17) a win to Doug Pitt, John Arnold & Joe Girgenti over Eric Smith, Daryl Hoskins & Charlie Toohey. On rink 4, at +2 (22 to 20) a win to Ted Holmes, New Tesch & Mick Plummer over Dave Blain, Billy Smith & Alister Douglas. On rink 7, at +8 (29 to 20) a win to John Fleming & Nev Fletcher over Steve Heffernan & John Anderson. Round 1 for Singles: between Denise Charman and Lee-Ann Mayell. Both bowlers delivered a nail biting game, only at the last few ends Denise scored high points and establishe­d herself as the winner. DISTRICT SINGLES SECTIONAL PLAYOFF 2020 Saturday February 15, found 39 bowlers lined up at Atherton and Mossman greens. Each section with 3 players playing 2 games 25 shots up. However you were placed thanks for participat­ing. Atherton, Sunday 16, saw the 13 Section winners and 3 first qualifiers match up to produce four semi-finalists. T. McAlary on 25-10 played K. Deegan 25-21. J. Lisha 25-18 played W. Petrohilos 25-15. Mal said that these two SemiFinals games were hard played with Tony McAlary def Kiwi Deegan 25, 22. While John Lisha out lasted the fast finishing Wayne (Petrol) Petrohilos 25-21 after John had the lead 20-6. Footy tipping competitio­n starts mid March, Rhonda is now accepting nomination­s for people wanting to participat­e, $50 for the season.

A & B Singles will be play in two sections with two games on each day starting at 12 noon.

First round B Singles will be on March 7 and 14 if you are unavailabl­e on one of these days you need to indicate this on the sheets pinned to the games board so that selectors can put you in the other side of the draw, similarly for A Single which will be played on March 21 and 28.
