In (CP, 29/02) there was the usual rightwing rantings but to claim the education system was broken is just fake news. Many of the jobs in the 20th century are now gone so the education process in the 21st century has changed. My 8-year-old granddaughter and her friends may not know their five times tables but they are computer literate, have iPad and iPhone skills and if they work hard will be successful in anything they choose.

As a ratepayer I was not happy to read that the current Mayor is planning to give first home buyers $5000. Add to that a cut in their rates! Sorry but that is not what I pay my rates for. Footpaths, local roads, water, sewage, infrastructure, playgrounds are where rates should be spent.

Wow. Is there any state department that’s not imploding? Now we find that 56,000 Queenslanders are waiting on surgery. A government with ministers who seem totally at sea. No idea of how to lead or deliver for our state. We have a government who by their own incompetence generates crisis after crisis, and then seem shocked when the community is unhappy. Time for ministers to be sacked and people with talent appointed. Enough really is enough.

Want proof we have a very healthy local environment? The Cairns Post fishing expert (CP, 28/02) recommends “… casting lures in the drains spewing out prawns in the Cairns inlet …”. Prawns breeding in drains proves we’re not the environmental vandals we’re told we are.
