CAIRNS track cyclist Brandon Hutton will take on the country’s best at Cycling Australia’s Elite and Under 19 Track Cycling National Championships in Brisbane this month.

The emerging star was yesterday announced as one of 26 cyclists from around the state to earn selection for the state track team to represent Queensland at the Anna Meares Velodrome from March 25-29.

“It is very satisfying to make the state team,” Hutton said.

“While I’ve done this many times before as a junior, now I get to take on the very best and

I feel that this is the next important step in my career.

“Representative cycling is such an honour and I’ve been blessed to have such great support networks with my family and my club. I hope I can do Cairns proud.”

Hutton made a seamless transition to the Elite ranks at last month’s state championships in Brisbane and earned his selection with a four-medal haul at the event.

The modest sprinter capped off an impressive state championship campaign by claiming silver in the highly-prized keirin event, to add to his tally of three bronze.

The powerfully-built firstyear senior was selected in the state’s under 19 track team last year, but will make his debut in the Elite level in 2020.

Cairns Cycling Club president Richie Bates said he was thrilled to see Hutton back in the state team.

“This young man is such a talent,” he said. “He trains hard, has great natural ability and always gives his best.

“He only narrowly missed Australian selection for the World Under 19 Championships

last year. We know he has the ability to go all the way, but he will need more time and specialist coaching to fully develop.”

The Cycling Australia Elite and Under 19 Track Cycling National Championships will be held at the Anna Meares Velodrome from March 25-29.
