Chillemi rapt in 2yo trio

- JORDAN GERRANS

PERENNIAL Townsville trainer’s premiership winner Roy Chillemi is excited about what his new crop of babies might produce this year.

The Tolga trainer heads to Cluden Park this afternoon with three two-year-olds in the $19,000 QTIS Two-Years-Old Maiden Handicap (1000m).

Two of three have race experience, Mystery ‘N’ Magic and Pamill, while Higher Realm will step out for the first time on race day after winning a trial at his home track on Saturday afternoon following the non-TAB program.

“They are a nice little group, there is no doubt about that,” Chillemi said.

“Mystery ‘N’ Magic will come back as a good threeyear-old I think, I bred him, and he is just starting to work his legs out.

“Pamill will come back a nice little filly and went good the other day at Cairns.

“Higher Realm is still green and will be a good handy horse once time goes on.

“Higher Realm trialled well on Saturday at Atherton, he won it easily but the ones he went against were not very mature or experienced.”

Pamill and Higher Realm will wear the famous colours of Cairns Jockey Club boss Tom Hedley while Chillemi bred and races Mystery ‘N’ Magic himself with his family.

Depending on how the trio of youngsters go, the $100,000 QTIS 2YO Classic (set weights) 1200m on the first Saturday in June at Townsville Turf Club could be an option for any or all of the Chillemi two-year-olds.

The experienced horseman will make the trip to Aquis Park Gold Coast on Saturday to watch former stable star Grey Missile in the Listed $125,000 TAB Goldmarket (1300m).

To be ridden by Robbie Fradd, Grey Missile drew barrier 17 earlier this week and will carry 54kg.

Chillemi also confirmed that smart youngster Oriental Girl will also join Toby and Trent Edmonds on the Gold Coast.

The Edmonds’ team now have three former Chillemitrained horses – Grey Missile, Tyzone and Oriental Girl.

Oriental Girl has six wins from 13 starts in her career and the veteran trainer recently said she could have been competitive in a Cairns Lightning Handicap, if she had remained in the north.

Oriental Girl still may return to FNQ for the 2020 carnival, depending on how her first southeast preparation goes.

Meanwhile, Cannon Park trainer Peter Rowe’s French Jet will be first-up from a break in the Ratings Band 0 – 69 Handicap (1000m) at Townsville today.

The six-year-old gelding has a good fresh record across his career.
