On council elections. I think they should be cancelled due to public health risks as some people are not following the protocols currently in place.

Paul Murray is a classic “expert” on something he knows nothing about. The facts are 1:5 people will get COVID-19 and 20% of those will be severely ill. Calculating the figures from the Chief Health Officer Queensland this equates to 250,000 people. Italy clearly shows what happens when too many in a short space of time become ill. Health system is overwhelmed and people die.

Taiwan was the role model for effectively managing COVID-19 (CP, 17/03), but our governments lacked the discipline to follow their example. Now we’re likely to cop it worse per capita than China did. What a shame our conservative parties were overrun by leftists during the Howard years.

Re: local businesses suffering due to reduced visitor numbers. Maybe this is the time to think about your base and stop fleecing the locals. Eating out in restaurants is far too expensive for most locals. These times demonstrate the need to look after the locals all year round. Jesunti, Brinsmead
