On coronavirus

-

Seems to be a trend among those choosing to put the rest of us at risk by not social distancing or changing their lifestyles in the time of this pandemic. Notice the arrogance of the inner city elite, those from the eastern suburbs of Sydney, or the anti-vaccas of Byron Bay et al. Interesting isn’t it, the people telling the rest of us how we need to modify our lifestyle to address climate change are not willing to change their lifestyle for the safety of our community. Double standards will be remembered.

With NRL, horse racing and pokies stopped and beer supplies potentially running out, Australia will have nothing to do. What a sad lot Australia is. Richard, Palm Cove

I, for one, will not be attending a polling booth this weekend. Have tried to register for telephone voting twice without success (system down apparently). We are told to self-isolate and then expected to flock by the thousands to polling booths. I don’t think so. Commonsense needs to prevail. Postpone this election. Holly, Freshwater

Rick Redlynch, (CP, 24/03) well said. I am over 50 suffering from severe chronic lung issues. I have been putting my health at further risk daily as I am desperate for bleach and toilet rolls. After seeing the same faces daily with their trolley full of everything they can fit, I actually burst into tears today and left with at least pet food for my precious dogs. God help us all if this is how we behave and it’s just the beginning,

In the last two days I have had to leave the house and go to four different premises (not that I wanted to). On each occasion I have purposely kept as far away as possible from others, but on every occasion they have come to me. Stopping to read a label, people brushing by me, at the counter someone speaking over my shoulder. My good friend in Weipa says the same. Message still not getting through. I and all my family are not voting at the council elections either. Simon, Bungalow

Exactly, Woz (CP, 24/03). In the COVID-19 era, with so many jobs lost and family businesses smashed, there is no longer any need for any public servant to be earning more than Australian median weekly earnings.

What is happening with Rusty’s Markets? When is it closing? Sorry but there are more people there than gyms and restaurants combined.

Reg, Bayview Heights

It’s crazy that schools remain open in the circumstances that we find ourselves in. Is the health of our teachers not as important as other members of society? Some of them are in the vulnerable category themselves. It seems the politicians are treating them as just child minders or cannon fodder.

Cairns Central needs to stop charging for parking at the moment and keep the boom gates up so we don’t have to push the button to get the ticket. No different to touching the petrol pump.

Jo, Manunda
