Real compassion at work

-

THE coronavirus has brought out the worst and the best in people; the latter are in the absolute majority.

I went to Woolworths at Smithfield on Saturday at 8am in the hope that what I needed was on the shelves.

I was there five minutes early and there was already a large congregation of people waiting. When the doors were opening there was a big rush of people heading to the second last aisle, where the toilet paper was. Being last in the queue I had resigned myself to the fact that by the time I got there the shelves would be empty. However, an unknown “angel” came from that aisle with two toilet packs and she dropped one pack into my trolley. What a wonderful gesture that was. Four more ladies behind me did the same with people at the back of the queue. Thank you all. That is real compassion.

Last week at Woolworths Smithfield I watched a couple walking into the supermarket hand-in-hand and each one got a trolley and went their separate ways shopping. This couple paid at different check-outs and then outside the checkout put their “loot” in one trolley and went to their car. This is an easy way of how to circumvent the system that is in place. Shame on you. And here is some good advice on how not to spread the COVID-19. When filling up at the car with fuel wear rubber gloves and dispose of them in the rubbish bin when finished.

I prefer using a plastic bag that I can easily shake off into the rubbish bin. Werner Schmidlin, Yorkeys Knob
