On other matters

Glad, Mareeba (CP, 12/05). I’ve been saying for years that Frecklington lacks substance. Labor in Queensland can be challenged on many fronts but Frecklington cannot be heard. I’m sorry Sam Marino, I’m an LNP voter but unless you get rid of her that’s one vote less you’re getting.

The public’s expectation of police is, if police see anyone committing an offence they’ll step in. From what I see around town and read in the CP, that’s not what we’re getting. From running red lights, cycling without a helmet, jaywalking; around here it seems to be of no interest to our police, or, are they simply too thin on the ground? We’re assured everything’s fine, however we know the force is down about 1300 uniformed and support staff. How about more people in blue, more support staff, and the citizens of Cairns get what they expect, a police force out policing. Rick, Redlynch

How about that. Putting everyone in home detention dropped the crime rate by 21% (CP, 12/05). I reckon putting the usual offenders in full-time detention — instead of giving them a lecture and a cuddle — would work even better. But that won’t happen while left wing whingers and snivel-libertarian sooks control the parliament.

Rita Panahi, I am really hoping that we, as Aussies have learnt one major thing through all this — we need to respect farmers more. We continued to have plenty of fresh food and meat at the supermarkets so continued to eat well. We need to manage our water much better so that everyone who lives off the land can do what they do best. Anything extra can be exported and that will help with our massive debt. More people working the land means more jobs and also will decrease our debt levels.

Here’s an idea for the extremely wellpaid socialists in our bureaucracy. Their salaries could be reduced to median weekly earnings with the savings redistributed to the proletariat who fell through the cracks with JobSeeker/ Keeper to ensure everyone has a living wage. My friend, the casual nurse, who has had no work since March 20 would then have some money, too.
