FNQ locals in Queen’s Birthday honours
SIX outstanding Far Northerners are set to become proud Order of Australia Medal recipients as the Governor-General announced the Queen’s Birthday 2020 honours list, recognising 933 Australians.
The Order of Australia recognises Australians who have demonstrated outstanding service or exceptional achievement.
The Far Northern recipients included:
■ Mount Sheridan resident and Cairns Hospital’s senior psychologist, Denise Craig, for services to people living with dementia and their support networks.
■ Former Mareeba Shire Council Mayor Thomas Gilmore for services to local government and to the community of Mareeba.
■ Ireland’s of Cairns dealership principal and former Advance Cairns chair Francis Richard Ireland for services to the community of Cairns through a range of roles.
■ Tablelands fruit and vegetable supplier and grocer Fariborez Rameshfar for services to remote communities in Far North Queensland.
■ Torres Strait Eastern Island Cluster founding member and Torres Strait Regional Authority member Alo Tapim for services to the indigenous community of the Torres Strait.
■ Former Queensland MP. Mulgrave Shire councillor and current Anglicare North Queensland director Naomi Wilson for services to the people and parliament of Queensland.
World Cup-winning cricket captain Michael Clarke joins former prime minister Tony Abbott, former senator Bronwyn Bishop and best-selling finance author Scott Pape in the honour roll released today.
Governor-General David Hurley said the list recognised “a group of outstanding Australians who have made a contribution to their community, to Australia globally or domestically”.
