VIRTUAL GIG GUIDE

- KATHY MCCABE

Here’s the good stuff to watch when you need a break from the work stuff this week

ELECTRO GURU

The Music of Giorgio Moroder: An Orchestral Celebration is one of the highlights of the From Our House To Yours digital program, launched by the

Sydney Opera House during the COVID-19 shutdowns and thankfully hanging around as restrictions ease.

Moroder’s vast and eclectic repertoire from Donna Summer hits I Feel Love to his soundtrack work on Scarface and Midnight

Express are given the full screen treatment by the Heritage Orchestra. sydneyoperahouse.com

GET WIGGLY

The Wiggles make their digital “live” debut at the Sydney Opera House on Sunday from 4pm for the From Our House To Yours series. So pull on your favourite block colour jumpers or skivvies, warm up those expressive hands and get ready to shake your hips as the fab four Emma, Lachy, Simon and Anthony Wiggle rock out on the Joan Sutherland stage.

COMFORT FOOD

Repeat episodes of the Cook and the Chef have been a pre-sleep meditation for years, thanks to Maggie Beer’s soothing tones. So it has been a treat to score some fresh recipes and oodles of Beer enthusiasm with the cooking queen’s IGTV iso cooking series. The recipes are hearty and easy, but even if you never have a crack at them, it’s worth the 20 minutes or less to listen to this champion chat about food.

CREATIVE COLLAB

The ongoing shutdown of live performance hasn’t stopped artists from connecting with their audiences and creating new works. The Sydney Dance Company and Sydney Symphony Orchestra have joined forces on Cuatro, a four-part work featuring a dancer and a virtuoso, which kicked off on June 5, starring Charmene Yap and Diana Doherty on oboe. A new piece screens for free each Friday via the SDC’s website and social media pages.

RETRO GIGS

Radiohead has been getting their retro on by dropping a new live concert film each week on their YouTube channel on Friday mornings (Australian time). This week’s gig will be the 10th in the At Home With Radiohead series, which has been running since April and includes triumphant sets from big festival stages and intimate venues.
