EASING social distancing restrictions has given Cairns cafes, clubs and restaurants the push needed to start rehiring for the region’s key hospitality jobs.

The Cairns Post has put together a list of 10 jobs on offer for hospitality jobseekers looking to get back to work.

Edge Hill tapas restaurant NOA is looking for a new head chef to lead its ever-expanding culinary operations. Applicants will require a proven track record of creativity, team management and food production, with the commitment to working a five-day roster covering evenings and weekends.

Restaurant owner Sam Byrd said many restaurants would be working to rebuild their teams as restrictions eased. “NOA (was) well supported by local communities so we were able to get through that tough period, but many restaurants who relied on the tourist trade will have a long way to go while the borders remain closed,” he said.

“There’s going to be a host of opportunities for experienced hospitality people to jump into another role, so there’ll be a merry-go-round of restaurants looking for those sorts of roles.”

To apply for the head chef position, email a resume and cover letter to Sam Byrd at kitchen@noaeat.com.au.

L'Unico assistant manager Jessy Parsons said she had received hundreds of applications for two wait staff positions being advertised at the restaurant.

“It’s hard – we couldn’t give our staff work when they needed it because of the restrictions, but now we’ve opened up the amount of people we can serve and the amount of staff we need,” she said.

“We had openings for two and it already looks like one of them is set to be filled, so it’s a very tight market”. She said the venue was doing its best for genuine applicants.
