On BLM protests

-

You reap what you sew. To the people breaking the law by ignoring social distancing and demonstrating in the face of corona pandemic. You don’t seem to care about your own lives. Certainly you don’t care about the lives of those who are obeying the social distancing laws on your behalf. If people don’t break the law they don’t go to jail and die in custody. People need to take responsibility for their own actions. “All lives matter irrespective of what colour you are”. Should be your slogan.

IG, Edge Hill

We as a community need to speak out fairly and loudly following the weekend’s Black Lives Matter protests and ask a couple of key questions of our State Government and others. What is the State Government doing to stop the insidious development of “the neglected generation”? We have indigenous children as young as eight on the street in Cairns in the early hours of the morning and apparently “in care”. What care? What hope of a future as many of these children don’t attend school. What is being done to remedy this? We have indigenous children over represented in our juvenile justice system. Where are the parents and community elders and role models? Why aren’t they being held to account? “The neglected generation” needs to be saved. Where is the State Government?

Rick, Redlynch

Why are TV and radio presenters still talking about the COVID-19 pandemic as if it was real? We saw on the weekend how fake it was. If it was real all those protests — here, Brisbane, London, New York, etc — would have been blocked and the protesters dispersed and fined. Our entire political class has failed us. We won’t forget.

Woz, Parramatta Park

On BLM protests. I believe all lives matter. Also no social distancing disgraceful for all the people who have gone to the wall because of COVID-19.

Irene, Gordonvale

I cannot believe what a bunch of hypocrites we have running this state when mass demonstrations are allowed. No social distancing obeyed and yet we have all these restrictions in place not being able to go to footy etc. While the government is sending more and more people broke every day due to not opening up this state. We must remove this government.

Albert, Earlville

Deaths in custody of anyone is not right and our country needs to unite and help solve crime. As parents we are the first educators of our children’s behaviour. The law is our country’s back up and our protectors. Responsible parenting of all cultural backgrounds will help reduce crime and keep people out of jail. Let’s all grow up and stop the blame game.

Jake, Kanimbla

Interesting to see the usual right wing, anti-lockdown, anti-climate change, flatearthers all putting down BLM rallies. Bet they are all white privileged LNP voters. Precisely why I resigned my 30-year membership.
