Work is not done yet
THE Cairns region should be very proud for peacefully standing up for life and protesting for change at Sunday’s #BlackLivesMatter rally.
However, the work is not done yet. Protesting police brutality and negligence is important.
So is pushing for changes that would see less opportunity for our mob to be in circumstances which may lead to police custody.
That’s why I challenge all governments to implement the full 339 recommendations of the Deaths in Custody Royal Commission of 1991.
These recommendations are wide reaching and stand as the national (unused) framework for the betterment of black lives - as well as to curb deaths in custody.
