The weather gods made the first leg of the Club

Championships interesting to say the least. However over 30 players turned up for the event which was sponsored by our good friends at Malanda Pharmacy. I am informed that Tim has been crook, we wish him well and when you are in there you can do the same.

Everyone was on time today so all the teams were on the course by 9.30, well done.

All that makes the captain’s job a lot easier, it also means that we are all home at a sensible time.

Scoring was consistent in all grades. This week we awarded places in each grade with the prizes going to the first three overall irrespective of their grade.

“A” Grade winner was Ash Healy with a comfortable net 69. He was closely followed by Warrick Howarth with 70 and in third with a 73 was the flying Scotsman Graham Murray.

“B” Grade was won by Dillan Williams who carded a very nice 68 and is striking the ball very nicely, two strokes back was Geoff Errey and one back from him was Kelvin Groves, as this grade is by far the most competitive this was a good effort, well done guys.

“C” Grade winner with a very impressive net 66 was new club member Gary Lobenwein. He was followed by Dale Stagg with Gary Sinclair taking out third for the day.

To save you working out who took home the men’s prizes I will list them, Gary Lobenwein was the winner by two strokes on 66, with Dillan Williams second and Ash Healy coming in third. So one from each grade took out the three positions.

Because of the lack of ladies, three places were awarded, first with a net 79 was Alicia English and only one stroke behind her was Tracey Dickinson with Marg Azar taking home third. Alicia also pipped the men again for nearest the pin on 1/10, David Welch was the nearest on 5/14 and I am reliably informed got his birdie. The second shot winner on 3/12 was Justin Cifuentes and I am told also got his birdie.

The winning three for the weekly draw were Trevor Warrener, Kelvin Groves with the third one going to Tracey Dickinson and Ross Ellen. I am not sure Ross got his $5.

Special thanks again to Trevor and his team for the great condition of the course.

Next week is the second round of the club championships which is sponsored by 4AM/4KZ with Quiksilver sponsoring the best 18 net. Early start again next week everyone so 8 for 8.30 see ya there.

Shane Soper upstaged the A graders to take the overall lead in the first round of the club championships from Danny Bradley.

Shane is therefore also the leader in B grade. For the C grade men, Dave Cassels has the early lead.

Prudence Wright is the current leader in the Ladies from her mum, Tarnia.

Kate Bolton and Caraline Soper are neck and neck for the B grade ladies.

Next weekend is the final 36 holes of the championships, played in conjunction with the Rankine Shield, a net event for players with a handicap of 18 and lower.

Dave Cassels was the midweek winner. Nominations are now welcomed for the Open weekend on the 4th and 5th July.

Book your tee-time ASAP.

We look forward to welcoming all golfers to our club for this fun event.
