On other matters

The slow response by the High Court on the border closures challenges, (CP, 17/06), shows the need for High Court reform. The state border closures are unconstitutional and economically damaging, of integrity and accountability.

I hope our local member agrees and will be vocal in supporting a federal anticorruption body.

Michael Carey, Manunda so the High Court should have convened immediately the challenges were filed and stayed on the job 12 hours a day until they were dealt with. Laziness and tardiness on the High Court in such core constitutional matters is just not acceptable. It’s baffling they can be woke and asleep at the wheel at the same time. Ric, Brinsmead

The letter in CP by John Hartley re: “Culture is more important” is exactly why Aboriginals are over represented in our prison system and juveniles are running around stealing cars and doing break-ins at will because they have no respect for the law and are not being taught to respect other people’s property.

“Youth laws tightened” (CP, 17/06). Old enough to do the crime, old enough to do the time. One rule for all — no exceptions. Joanne, Manunda

Unbelievable. 540,000 taxpayer dollars completely wasted on bureaucrats in trying to get permission to move filthy diseased bats out of our city (CP, 17/06). That’s why we’re so uncompetitive. Stupid, pointless regulations that waste our money. Purge the regulations with a shredder. Move the bats with a shotgun. Karen, Kanimbla

Just want to say the people who ride pushbikes early in the morning along the Western Arterial Road where all the roadworks are going on are putting people’s lives in great danger. Almost caused a head-on with a semi trailer as he had to go on wrong side of road to pass them. Please use your brains and go the other way until roadworks are completely finished.

Re: Crocs Port Douglas. Would they have been four-time premiers if they didn’t pay for players from down south? I say let them source local players and play on a level field like the rest, and see if they win a premiership. If the Port Douglas Rugby Union team can source local players, why can’t they?

Bell, Westcourt
