Why are Australian taxpayers funding the Jehovah’s Witnesses? Whether it’s grants or favourable tax status, that is plain wrong. The JWs are a doomsday cult. It’s in their own books. Plus, they don’t believe in democracy, so they don’t participate in it by voting. They deserve nothing from the taxpayer and nor does any other religious or quasi-religious organisation.

Re: Virgin flights. Virgin has specials being offered with no mention of Cairns anywhere. Townsville, Mackay, but not Cairns. Hmmm.

Realist, (CP, 02/07). The only realities are there have always been and always will be bushfires, floods, droughts and cyclones. It is nature and that’s what nature does. You’ve obviously forgotten. The farce is now called climate change. Global warming proved that the globe wasn’t. Bill, Mooroobool

First Michael Moore, now Michael Shellenberger, both famous greenies, have woken up to the climate change fraud. On June 30 The Australian ran Shellenberger’s apology to us all, “Sorry for misleading you, but I cried wolf on climate change.” Moore’s YouTube movie “Planet of the Humans” has had 8,625,000 hits since it went public two months ago. Will the left now agree to follow the proper scientific method where science is never settled?

“Cafe tragedy sparks driver health revamp” (CP, 02/07). Sure, that’s a good thing. But if the driver had missed the gas bottle it’s probable that nobody would have been burnt or died. Is there going to be a revamp of gas storage rules?

Joanne, Manunda

I don’t see Rob Pyne’s new swimming pool or new library for Edmonton, or Kathy Ziegler’s fishing pontoon for White Rock, as promised in last local government elections, get a mention in CRC new budget wish list.

Rex, Edmonton

Mooroobool Bill. The Australian Energy Market Operator (government agency), not me, said cheapest way to replace ageing coal assets is wind and solar, backed by storage and gas (SMH, 12/03/19). I am just quoting facts. Kenny, Bayview Heights

Seriously. Panic buying loo paper again. We learnt last time it was totally unnecessary and the vulnerable will be the ones affected.

Not a single ad to entice me to holiday in Cairns. Looks like we are off to Surfers. Their advertised deals got me.
