Boot camps for youth
There is lots of talk about boot camps as the answer to youth crime.
The trouble is all the do-gooders will water down the legislation.
Even the opposition are still looking at a three strikes and you’re out policy.
The decision to commit a crime is all about risk vs reward.
How on earth do you expect to discourage a child from committing a crime when he or she knows that they can get caught several times before any action will be taken?
Then they get sent away to a culturally sensitive environment where they will be looked after.
Perhaps the rest of us should get three strikes before we are punished for drink-driving or speeding.
After that a six-week stint on Great Keppel Island might teach us a lesson. Jim Murdoch, Brinsmead
