WINTER MONTHS BRING FEISTY WHITING ON LINE

-

WINTER sees plenty of whiting being caught in the mouths of our FNQ coastal creeks on freshly pumped yabbies or prawns.

However, it is not commonly known that they will readily take small poppers and surface lures.

Whiting are a very aggressive feeders and will smash small surface lures like the Jackson Ebi Panic, which imitates a flicking prawn on the surface.

River mouth shallow sandflats are ideal to throw small poppers chasing whiting, which fight hard on light spin gear.

Don’t be surprised to also have flathead and trevally smashing your small poppers in these areas.

It opens up an exciting new fishing experience during winter and is a fun fishing activity to get the kids involved in with light spin outfits

Not only are whiting aggressive feeders that strike surface lures hard, they are great eating, too.
