On coronavirus

-

Any human who thinks that they’re smarter than God and Mother Nature and able to create a vaccine for COVID-19, needs to give themselves an uppercut. Only way to prevent pandemic disease is to properly feed humans who were forced to eat native bush meats. Rather than do this, our stupid world governments, continue to waste many more trillions of dollars on weapons of war.

Doug Pollard, your letter in the Weekend Post regarding people taking responsibility for their own actions is true, not only during this COVID crisis but also in general. The most sensible letter I’ve seen published in the Post, couldn’t agree more.

Doug Pollard (CP, 11/07), relax, man. It’s just the flu. It was worse in China because of factors specific to their environment in winter - freezing, crowded, polluted, lowhygiene cities. The CCP overreacted and spread panic to Western governments and media. Our death toll is 106 in six months - which is six hours of Australia’s normal death rate from all causes. And no, social distancing didn’t save us as it was here before that started.

Cairns Regional Council’s decision to reintroduce paid parking in the CBD from

July 20 is a retrograde step. Could the council advise the community how many times per hour each vending machine will be sanitised? Will hand sanitiser be available for residents at each machine? You want to destroy CBD businesses with this silliness, then you need to explain how you are going to protect your ratepayers health as everyone will need contact with the vending machine screens. Answers please?

Full-time firefighters (CP, 11/07) are expensive and don’t get used much. Half of them could be sent out to do bushfire fuel reduction and the empty seats left on the urban trucks could be filled by volunteers called in when needed. Flood rescue is an SES volunteer job anyway. Ric, Brinsmead

More anti-plastic stupidity from the ALP state govt (CP, 11/07). Good luck surviving a pandemic, or even living in a city, without the single use plastics which are vital to good hygiene. Had COVID been a real disease, reusable shopping bags would have spread it far and wide. Joanne, Manunda

Val, (CP, 11/07). The point of jail is to remove criminals from the community. When you take away jail as an option you’re giving the criminal opportunities to commit more crimes against the community. Old enough to do the crime is old enough to do the time. Everything else is a prison management issue.

So we will be paying for the revamp of Bunnings into a basketball stadium. I noticed the cost wasn’t mentioned. What happens to it after it’s been used half a dozen times? I see that as a waste of our money.
