Reconsider bat removal

I HAVE heard recently of the enforced removal of bats near the library.

If care was taken to keep the removal and pruning of trees within the area to a minimum these animals would not be requiring removal, a tricky proposition regarding their endangered species status and the need for pollinators of trees. No, bees do not cover this field.

When I lived in Cairns in the 80s, it was seen to be more advanced in thinking as the proposal for a glitzy island was knocked back and the proposal to turn the foreshore into a totally sandy beach despite the migratory birds, was changed to only part of the area.

Please reconsider continuing to try to shift the bats until you have trees to which they are attracted to, and without the use of violent measures. It damages Cairns’ green credentials and further damages the tropical feel.

Before comments are made about how I do not understand how dangerous and stinky they are, the danger is for those that don't use common sense around a wild animal and I live near

“batty island” in Brisbane.
