The Cairns Post

On state borders

-

Despite the great job authorities are doing protecting state borders, it is hard not to suspect many people from “hot spots” will still be getting through. The sheer volume of traffic that can’t all be checked is testament to this. Numbers that have been apprehended suggest the “unscrupulous” will still find a way of endangering Queenslanders.

All of LNP and other conservatives who for months attacked Palaszczuk in the Cairns Post for keeping the state’s borders closed must now be feeling sick. Perhaps they need a holiday in Sydney or Melbourne?

Sean McGinn, Clifton Beach and cement is not what a liveable, tourist, tropical city needs. Progressive cities that attract desired development are green clean and environmentally friendly. Ratepayer, CBD

Jack, Brinsmead (CP, 14/07). “Swiftwater” is not different to “floodwater”. One wet season at Redlynch I witnessed unpaid SES volunteers arrive very quickly and perform a flawless rescue in very swift floodwater. The fire service has mission creep, probably because of empirebuilding backroom boys and noisy unions wanting more members.

John Pratt (CP, 15/07). What is this “carbon pollution” you speak of? Carbon is a solid. It’s what diamonds are made of. If we had factories emitting carbon we’d capture it and use it in high-strength steels etc. If you mean carbon dioxide, then please say so. CO2 is the trace gas on which all life depends. Its quantity in the air is controlled by ocean temperatures, which are set by solar radiation received. Those are facts. Read “Henry’s law”.

Ric, Brinsmead

Funny how the left accuse the right of being “conspiracy theorists” but they’re now gutted that their own long-held conspiracy theory involving the Queen and the Governor-General sacking the damaging and dangerous Gough Whitlam in 1975 (CP, 15/07) has just collapsed into a nothing burger.

Higgs, Tolga

All levels of government are wasting taxpayers’ dollars to buy votes. Workers getting ripped off.

Cairns Regional Council still has time to change its mind on paid parking in the CBD. Time to step up and support local businesses. Time to step up and encourage locals to visit the CBD. Time to step up and listen. Time to step up and deliver a positive message. How about it? How about some leadership?

Wow, Peter Dutton, his 75-year-old dad and 11 family members travelled to the Tip. Well done and what great family memories have been made. I hope a few family videos were made to share with all Aussies so that the Cape gets some free tourism promotion.
