WHAT WE'RE LOVING RIGHT NOW
TO LISTEN MYSTERY ROAD
The creator of the excellent Criminal podcast Phoebe Judge has a side project reading cosy mystery stories aloud, chapter by chapter. Called Phoebe Reads a Mystery, season one was Agatha Christie’s The Mysterious Affair at Styles. Come for her soothing voice, stay for the neatly wrapped up classic tales.
TO WATCH TIME TO KILL
Why Women Kill is a dark drama/comedy that made waves when it launched in the US last year. Created by Marc Cherry (Desperate Housewives) and starring Lucy Liu, it’s set over three time periods (1963, 1984, 2019) and details what led to the death of the shady husbands of three married women. Season one is now on SBS on Demand.
TO SING WRIGHT WAY
Rufus Wainwright has been another iso hero from the entertainment world, putting daily tunes on his social media. He’s also found time to release a new album, Unfollow the Rules, produced by Mitchell Froom (Crowded House). There’s even an isolation anthem for our times in the final track: Alone Time.
TO LIVESTREAM NINE LIVES
The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra continues to entertain audiences online. Thursday at 7.30pm on the MSO’s YouTube channel, watch as Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony is brought to life by Circa Contemporary Circus, as well as Deborah Cheetham’s response to the Ninth: Dutala (Star-Filled Sky).
TO LAUGH COMMA CHAMELEON
Serious Comedy is doing online stand-up shows, asking punters to pay what they can (between $5 and $30) to watch each performance. Thursday at 9pm it’s grammar nerd Louisa Fitzhardinge, who is finding it difficult to see people selling “potato’s” and using “literally” incorrectly. Like puns? Hate errant apostrophes on signs?
