Court in the middle of new project for netball
THE Trinity Beach Bulldogs are hoping the establishment of their own home court will bring an exciting new era to sports in the area.
The netball club announced on Monday its plans to develop a junior grass court at the Trinity Beach multi-sport facility Crathern Park.
Bulldogs president Martyn Hughes (pictured with Thirkell
Consulting and Engineering owner George Thirkell and principal project officer Michelle Wild) said a new home court would allow for further membership growth and provide the growing player base with a place they could call home for years to come.
“This new court will be a huge step towards having our own training and playing facilities within the northern beaches,” he said.
“The building of this court, and hopefully a further court in the near future, will make great strides towards us becoming one of the best, if not the best, netball clubs in Cairns.”
Hughes said the club had been working towards getting its own home court since it was founded five years ago.
“This is an important step in cementing our relationship with our partners at the Centrals
Trinity Beach Bulldogs AFL club,” he said.
“While we have been affiliated to the AFL club for some time, we haven’t had a true place to call our home and have had to rely on the goodwill of both Trinity Beach and Smithfield state schools for training facilities, for which we are really grateful.”
While work has commenced at the site of the new courts, Hughes said the club was looking for further assistance to complete the project.
“A grant from the Queensland Government has enabled us to come to this point, and our enormous thanks to them; however, we still need further support and sponsors to finish off the playing surface,” he said.
Crathern Park is also the home of AFL, cricket, soccer, baseball and tennis on the northern beaches.
