On the State cabinet
Re: State Government cabinet meeting in Cairns August 24-26. Perhaps they can do the hot air balloon tours at Mareeba. They won’t need to light the gas, given it will be close to election time.

You’re joking, right? Our useless premier who has panicked over COVID-19, acted outside her legal authority with border closures, and needlessly crushed the productive economy, is bringing her special friends, sorry, “cabinet”, to FNQ for a winter holiday, sorry, “fact finding mission”, at our expense (CP, 16/07). These people are so detached from reality they can’t see how offensive that is to ordinary Aussies.

business district”. It’s where businesses operate and they need lots of people who come by car. If you want quiet, leafy surroundings you should move to Kanimbla.

The Cairns CBD was in trouble from the first day Cairns Central was proposed. People argued from the start that its proximity to the city would impact businesses. One of the main arguments was parking. Free parking for three hours in one centre or multiple parkings that you had to pay for in the CBD. Also by building the Lagoon and vamping up the Esplanade you literally made any businesses in between these two areas out of sight, out of mind. Ever since councils have been spending money trying to entice people to the city. People do go but mainly to the two areas I just mentioned.
