On other matters

I know this is probably a silly question but why do we not have Shaylee strawberries available in Cairns supermarkets?

Re McDonald’s ads. The current ads show children it is alright to lie and it is ok to lie to a child. They also show children it is

OK to rush children just to get a coffee. Obviously the Maccas marketing team do not understand the meaning of the word subliminal … let alone the varied types of child abuse.

HK. Kanimbla. (CP, 17/8). Couldn’t agree with you more on the confusing stance of the Greens. With all the talk on replacing or taxing plastic I find it laughable that their alternative is to go back to logging. The forests of the world are in huge decline and yet they store up to 95% of the world’s carbon. Plastic is bad for the environment no doubt but this rush back to paper products needs to be thought through more. The threat to the environment is bigger and more complex than any of us can imagine. Do I have all the answers? No, but like JFK once said: “Our problems are man made therefore they can be solved by man.” We just need a united effort.

We’d all love $165m-plus funding for a university hospital (CP 17/08). But the money can’t be produced by a moribund economy. The answer is to cut government spending elsewhere. I suggest ending subsidised renewable energy, as that experiment has failed.

Many young people today are soft compared to their counterparts 75 years ago (CP 15/8). Their parents, grandparents, and teachers have let them down by protecting them from life’s harsh realities. Woz, Parramatta Park

Paul, Cairns City (CP, 14/08). Maybe you need a reality check. Climate change is real and the Morrison government has done a shocking job running our old people’s and retirement homes. Another thing, derogatory comments achieve nothing.
