On political matters

-

It’s been over 15 months since Labor lost the “unlosable” federal election and Anthony Albanese is still struggling to come up with a game-plan to get his party into government. The party knows it is vital that they get the working-class voters back on side, particularly in the mining sector, but at the same time they can’t afford to upset the Greens. It’s a dilemma that has divided the party and there seems to be no solution. Labor needs to stand up and back themselves for a win instead of trying to have a bit each-way and hoping for the best. Little wonder that we see Scott Morrison riding high on the crest of a popularity wave.

Bouquets and brickbats to Peter Gleeson (CP, 24/8). Bouquets for playing the fear card re the upcoming state election. We all love a good old fear campaign. Brickbats for playing the religion card. The last thing we need in Australia is arguing over whose god will give us the best deal on a flight to heaven.

Edge Hill Phil. Australia, WA, Tassie, SA and NSW have all closed borders for COVID-19. Criticising only the Queensland border closure is political and hypocritical. Using a medical crisis for political gain is unethical and inexcusable. Kenny, Bayview

Hypocrisy at its best. While we are being told we are all in this together, our country is on its knees, businesses closing down daily, but our public service personnel and our politicians have been receiving full pay and 14.5 per cent super contribution from where? Public money. Don’t you just love our democracy.

Don. Earlville or whatever, let’s just have one law for all regardless. That is how law is supposed to work. Remember “justice is blind”, etc.

Labor delivers on health. At the current rate we will qualify for their promised euthanasia service before we get our cataracts removed.

Ric, Brinsmead (CP, 24/8). They will open up a renewable energy trade school as soon as they close down the coal powered energy trade school.

Not appy, Don. Tik Tok fights ban but I agree with Donald Trump that Tik Tok should be banned,

Too many “stars”. It seems that every sportsperson, actor, anyone who has ever appeared on any type of reality show, influencers or even anyone with a blog is a “star” according to the media. Can we stop it? In 99 per cent of cases these people are not stars, they’re players, participants or in the worst case, selfpromoting narcissists. Too many stars not enough real talent from where I sit. Rick, Redlynch

I don't like bagging my own team but when you’re going as bad as we are for heaven’s sake cut out the fancy last gasp stupid passes. Just hold the ball through your sets for now please.
