“But there are a lot of people going through worse so it is what it is. I know things are going to get better.”

Next year will mark a decade since Little Mix first came together and won the British series of The X Factor. It is a momentous moment for the group and something they will celebrate.

“I think our music has really touched people and knowing that we inspire our fans through our music is just incredible,” Pinnock explains. “We set out to do that right from the beginning with our song Wings.”

She adds: “In terms of what we stand for individually as well is really impactful and really powerful. I think we are going to definitely leave an everlasting legacy.”

As well as thinking about that legacy, the past few months have been a time of reflection for Pinnock, who was recently announced to host an upcoming BBC documentary on racism.

The documentary is in the planning stages with an air date likely for next year and is titled LeighAnne: Colourism & Race.

Pinnock is of Barbadian and Jamaican ancestry and felt it was the right time to speak up in light of the Black Lives Matter movement around the world.

“Finally the world is ready to listen and understand about racism, so I think now is the time,” she says. “I really hope that people take something away from it. I am a little bit scared with the doc [documentary] because this is such a new thing [talking about racism]. This is about having those awkward conversations and challenging people’s views and actually being anti-racist, that is what we need to do now.”

At 28, Pinnock adds that she had grown into sharing her opinion.

“I think it comes with age. I definitely feel a lot wiser and a bit more free. Having this conversation about race especially has helped me to figure out exactly who I am and what I am doing, and how best to lend my voice in general to try and make a change. I feel a lot more empowered and sure of who I am, that is for sure.”

On a personal front, Pinnock also has a wedding to plan, although she has plenty of time.

“I can’t wait, I am so excited. It is 2022 and it is in Jamaica.”

LITTLE MIX’S NEW TRACK HOLIDAY IS OUT NOW.
